Plate Boundaries

Sweden is not near any boundaries. The closest boundary that it is near is "over 1,000 km away" (www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se). It is very rare for an earthquake to be felt in Sweden.

  1. Hi Emily!

I am pretty amazed that it is rare for Sweden to experience earthquakes since they are not near plate boundaries. To me, living near San Andreas Fault, it has always seemed to me that every country can at one point feel earthquakes but it makes sense now after I looked over your Sweden blog that there are areas that just do not experience them!

    Great and simple post,

  2. Hello Emily, Sweden sits on the Eurasian Tectonic Plate . I picked the United Kingdom for my country and it also sits on the Eurasian Plate. Both of these countries are far enough from any plate boundaries, and have only small earthquakes, no tsunamis, and no active volcanoes.

  3. Hello again Emily, I forgot to say on my post above that you presented a nice post, very informative.
    Kind regards
